EMU CHICKS: One month old

Emu chicks do little but eat and drink water from the time they are 48 hours old. As a result they grow about twelve inches every month until they reach their full height of approximately 51/2 to 6 feet , when standing stretched tall. They do have a great sense of fun and love to play tag, roll over and over down hill and rub their backs on the ground waving their long legs in the air. Daddy Emu keeps careful watch over them and sometimes joins in their play . If a strange dog or person he does not know should pass by close to the pen, he blows himself up to an alarming size with feathers standing straight out and rushes, hissing at the intruder. It is enough to scare away the bravest of hearts. In the meantime, Mom still just goes about doing her own thing and only looks in on the chicks if there is food to be had.
