THE ARTIST: Born Jan Royce in Boston, Massachusetts, she studied under Elizabeth Saltonstall at Milton Academy and majored in graphic fine arts at The Boston School of the Museum of Fine Arts and The Cincinnati Art Academy. She has been represented in numerous juried exhibitions including The National Arts Club NYC, "Animals in Art" The Hammer Gallery, NYC and is a regular exhibitor at The Lyme Art Assoc. Old Lyme, CT. Conant also serves on the Board of Directors and A.P.E.C Committee of the Lyme Art Assoc.

The love of creatures great and small, wild and domestic, inspires Jan Royce Conant's paintings. Working with equal fluency in oils, watercolor, acrylic and pastel, her art captures the grace, beauty and vitality of the animals she has studied all her life. Painting at her "second home" in Runaway Bay, Jamaica, W.I. (1975-2001) she has developed an expanded sense of vibrancy and space. Her studies of the people of Jamaica are alive with the love and understanding that she has for them.
Conant has illustrated seven books including her own, HALF PINT and OTHERS and CHILDREN of LIGHT. Seven of her paintings have been reproduced into limited edition prints. Her commissioned paintings and work hang in over three hundred private and corporate collections.

THE EQUESTRIAN
Although presently semi- retired from her Equestrian activities, Jan Royce Conant has owned and operated her own Equestrian Training Farms. Since 1962 at Tinker Hill Farm, Glastonbury, CT and from 1973 until the present at Stonefield Farm , East Haddam, CT. It was at these two farms that many professional riders today and Olympians in all three of the equestrian disciplines received their foundation training under Conant's strict but compassionate supervision. From 1982 to 1985 , while living in Jamaica, W.I. Conant designed and served as Managing Director of Chukka Cove Polo Club and Equestrian Center.
Conant worked tirelessly for 22 years as a volunteer instructor and officer for The United States Pony Clubs, Inc. She wore many hats including District Commissioner for the Glastonbury Pony Club for 16 years; Regional Supervisor , NYUCT Region; Governor, National Examiner, Committees Chairperson, and Vice President of the USPC, Inc.
A licensed judge by The American Horse Shows
Assoc. since 1963, Conant retired her "S" Dressage and
"R" CT Technical Delegate licenses in 1997. She has since
retired her USEA "R" and FEI "I" Eventing
licenses and is enjoying her horses at home
and coaching some riders.
ANIMAL BEHAVIORIST
From childhood, Conant has loved and cared for animals of all descriptions. A lifetime of study and actually living with hundreds of animals has brought her close to being able to communicate with animals and sense their needs. As an annual speaker at the American Society of Dowsers conference in Lyndonville, VT , Conant has become well known for her abilities and receives calls for help from all over the country. Her present home, Stonefield Farm, is shared with ten different species of animals all living together in perfect harmony. These include horses, miniature donkeys, llamas, goats, emus, geese, bantam chickens, Guinea fowl. dogs, and parrots.
